Businesses say YES and UK logistics and transport hub secures another five years of investment

Businesses on one of the UK’s most successful logistics and transport estates have voted overwhelmingly to retain their status as a Business Improvement District (BID) – guaranteeing a further five years of investment.
Northampton’s Brackmills Industrial Estate, which first became a BID in 2009, developed and managed by BID specialist company pfbb UK, secured the YES vote today [March 28], meaning it will retain its status as a BID for a further five years. Resident companies will now continue to pool an annual levy and this will be used to fund initiatives, events and projects identified as priorities by the businesses themselves.
These will include improved broadband and power supply, traffic calming without road humps, extra winter gritting and improved lighting, CCTV cameras 24/7, a dedicated Police Community Support Officer for the estate and a better appearance of vacant sites.
Sara Homer, Executive Chairman of the Brackmills BID, said: “We are delighted to have secured the YES vote and look forward to building on the dramatic improvements we have already made on this estate, to retain our status as the UK’s premier business and logistics parks, to keep crime at an all-time low and to now focus on the priorities businesses identified as important to them over the next five years.”
Before becoming a BID Brackmills was a decaying industrial area, with crime at an all-time high. It has been reduced by over 60 per cent in the last five years and attracted new companies including Dachser establishing their UK head office in a new 16 acre development on the old cattle market site.
Ian Ferguson Director of pfbb UK said, ‘this result is testament to the hard work of our team providing project management and delivery together with a hands-on Chair of the Board and a committed board of Directors from businesses across the estate.’
Brackmills BID Executive Chairman, Sara Homer, added: “Brackmills would still be the same as it was five years ago if we had not come together to form a Business Improvement District. By voting YES we can now build on all our improvements and successes.”
